Gates To Spring
She remembers the mountains. Not with nostalgia, but with the body — the way cold air moves through a valley before rain, the sudden exhale of light after a storm breaks open the sky. Born in the remote mountains of central Asia, Lark Pilinsky carries that landscape inside her always, and in this painting, it erupts. A great sweeping arc of light rises from the left and curves through the canvas like a breath held too long finally released — a rainbow not painted so much as remembered, felt, summoned. Below the arc, the earth responds. Dense, urgent strokes of forest green push upward from the lower corners — trees, grasses, the living body of the land reaching toward that luminous curve. The palette moves between the wild and the tender: deep moss and ochre at the roots, dissolving into pale sage and lavender mist at the horizon. There is a meditation happening here, a conversation between what is rooted and what is boundless. This is the art of someone who has never asked permission from convention. The mark-making is fearless, the color choices deeply intuitive, the emotional register wide open. Standing before this canvas, the viewer is invited into Lark's inner wilderness — a place of healing, of stillness within movement, of a woman fully rooted in herself and the trembling, luminous world she was born into.
