She painted this the way the mountains of her childhood always spoke to her — not in words, not in clear outlines, but in sensation. In the feeling of standing in high alpine meadow grass at dawn, when the mist hasn't yet lifted and wildflowers emerge from the grey like whispered prayers. Lark has said that her canvases are not painted so much as summoned, and looking at this work, you feel the truth of that. The flowers in the center cluster don't sit quietly — they push upward, outward, alive with the urgency of things that grow because they must. The diagonal lattice of white marks crossing the field is wind, or rain, or time — the invisible forces that press against living things without stopping their blooming. At the top right, a sphere of yellow and cobalt hovers like a sun seen through cloud, neither fully here nor fully gone, the way memory behaves when it carries joy. The lower edge of the canvas returns to earth — grasses, scattered petals, the cool blue-green of soil that holds everything up. It is a complete world, one you can step into and breathe. This is a painting about resilience made luminous. About the healing that happens when you are still enough to notice that beauty has been growing all around you the entire time. Lark, born in the wild and now rooted in Los Angeles, carries those mountains inside her still — and in this work, she gives them to us.
